My primary research interests focus on neurodevelopmental disorders; with research projects which deal with:
1.) Early identification of children with ASD, and factors which hinder or improve the chances to being diagnosed with ASD before age three. Lately, I have been involved in a multisite collaboration with REAL (Red Espectro Autista Latinoamerica) and Autism Speaks in a project that looks into diagnostic and treatment experiences of caregivers of people with ASD.
2.) Improving professionals knowledge about ASD and capacity building for better recognition of neurodevelopmental disorders by primary care physicians and pre-school teachers
3.) Validation of cultural appropriate ASD diagnostic instruments used both in practice and research.
4.) Comorbidities and correlates of ASD and ADHD.
4.) Implementation of parent and teacher training programs in community settings for neurodevelopmental disorders (ASD and ADHD); with an emphasis on the use of standardized programs that could be implemented by non-specialists. I am also working on this project with MINSA, PAHO , and Autism Speaks, in a project to pilot the use of parent training program.
5.) Dissemination, for both professionals and also layperson, of evidence-based data about diagnosis, assessment, interventions and general awareness of neurodevelopmental disorders (ASD and ADHD)
