Natural products offer a vast and virtually unlimited source of new compounds for the pharmaceutical and agrochemical industries. The Center of Excellence in Drug Discovery (CEDD) was created with the objective of finding new molecules with the potential for drug development from the Panamanian marine biodiversity. CEDD’s mission is to become the leader in drug discovery in Panama and the entire Latin American region, establishing an alliance between universities, government, and industry to integrate research, development, and commercialization of natural products.
The CEDD is located at the Institute for Scientific Research and High Technology Services (INDICASAT AIP) in the City of Knowledge. The Center is a unique academy-affiliated research institution dedicated to improving health through the discovery, development, and commercialization of nature-derived pharmaceutical products. Research at the Center is currently focused on the discovery of new drugs to meet current needs in the treatment of cancer, tropical diseases, and cardiovascular and neurological disorders.
